At Risk Children
The Kusuma Trust believes that every child has the right to a life which provides them with opportunities to reach their full potential. Poverty, abuse, discrimination and lack of access to education prevents thousands of Indian children from unlocking their talents and rising above their circumstances.
Our aim is to help vulnerable and socially excluded children achieve a better quality of life by funding innovative organisations committed to improving their rights and enhancing their existence through education, healthcare, support and vocational training.
Kusuma finance aims to complement the national and state governments’ increased commitment to transforming the lives of India’s most vulnerable children.
We focus in the areas of:
-
Rehabilitation of Street Children - Over 44,000 kids go missing in India every year, of which some 11,000 remain untraced. (Source: www.soscvindia.org) The total number of destitute children in India has been estimated by some sources as high as 100 million and there are over 12 million orphans in India. -
Children in Distress - Children who are being abused or forced into fending for themselves are extremely vulnerable and can feel they have no-one to turn to. Kusuma is planning on targeting youngsters in distress by funding organisations specifically set up to help children in need of urgent advice, counselling and support.
-
Children with Disabilities - One in ten children in India are disabled. Many thousands are abandoned by their families who are unable to care for them and lead lives of unimaginable deprivation. Others are from poor, destitute homes which have little or no access to proper care or medical attention. (Source: www.disabilityworld.org)
