Background

The Trust believes that every child and young person has the potential to transform and improve their life, and should have opportunities to grow and develop as active and productive citizens in their communities.

Our mission is to facilitate and increase access to education and other life opportunities for children and young people, with a focus on the most economically disadvantaged.  The Trust enables children and young people to realise their potential and break the inter-generational cycle of poverty.

The Trust makes grants to organisations whose work aligns with our Strategy and our strategic priorities - Education, Children At-Risk, Internet and Open Space, and Research and Advocacy.

Eligibility

Eligibility for grants in India is based on meeting the following minimum criteria:

  • Organisations that deliver programmatic work that aligns with our Strategy and priorities
  • Organisations with a Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration
  • Organisations with a geographic focus in Sambalpur, Orissa and Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh
  • Organisations with an interest in Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh
  • Organisations in India that work at local, State and/or national level

The Trust will also engage organisations and institutions outside India with specific interests in India and with the expertise and capacity to further the mission and objectives of The Trust in India. The Trust will actively seek and engage with organisations whose mission and objectives are a close fit with our Strategy and priorities.

At different stages during our review of grant applications, we will also assess the following:

  • Organisational governance
  • Organisational management
  • Organisational capacity to implement grants
  • Technical expertise
  • Fundraising and sustainability plans, including matched funding from other sources
  • Partnerships and community engagement
  • Track record of implementing comparable projects
  • Evaluations of implemented projects

The following will generally not be eligible for grants:

  • Proposals aimed at benefitting one or several individuals
  • Retrospective funding for projects that have already started
  • Funding for only administrative and personnel costs 

The following will not be eligible for grants:

  • Organisations that do not have FCRA registration
  • Funding for political or religious activities
  • Organisations that discriminate against any groups on the grounds of race, gender, religion, caste, disability or sexual orientation
  • Organisations that encourage activities which may lead to civil unrest
  • Organisations that are linked to terrorist activities or organisations
