Our focus is to improve education outcomes by supporting interventions for young people in secondary and tertiary education.  We address the major gaps to accessing secondary and tertiary education for motivated and high performing young people from the most economically disadvantaged backgrounds.  We also support work with children with different learning abilities.

Our work contributes to a range of outcomes, including:

  • Increased and better quality education for more young people
  • Short term: An increased number of young people completing Class 12
  • Medium term: Higher scores among young people completing Class 12 and improved learning outcomes
  • Long term: An increased number of young people from economically disadvantaged households entering and completing university, professional and vocational courses and gaining employment.

Our three scholarship programmes show how new opportunities are being delivered to meritorious students in Orissa, Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh:

We support innovative teaching methods as demonstrated in the Mobile Science Laboratory project and our accelerated learning courses of Udaan and Pehchaan

Children from economically marginalised communities receive nutrition and are encouraged to attend school through the Kusuma Mid-Day Meals and Mid-Day Meal Kitchen projects.

Funding has also been given to the Indian Institute of Technology for the establishment of the Kusuma School of Biological Sciences to create new teaching and research programmes, including under-graduate and post-graduate courses.
