The European Trauma Course (ETC) will take place for the first time in Gibraltar this week, thanks to our grant of £80,000. The three-day, internationally accredited training programme simulates real-life trauma scenarios and will provide healthcare professionals from the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) with the skills and knowledge to deliver high quality, evidence-based care for major trauma patients. It is hoped that the course will be the first of many, as the GHA has been granted approval to become an accredited training centre for the ETC.

Director of Nursing, Sandie Gracia, said: “Upgrading training and skills for frontline health workers is beneficial to the service provided by the GHA, and the trauma course is a perfect example of collaboration with external organisations in a shared objective. Course instructors will evaluate our response to a simulated major emergency providing us with a valuable learning opportunity to be more effective in real life catastrophes.”

Gemma Arias-Vasquez, Minister for Health and Care, said: “I am delighted that we are bringing the European Trauma Course to Gibraltar. I am very thankful for the work done by the GHA to make this happen, and very grateful to the Kusuma Trust for their continued support and very generous donation. This is about saving lives, improving patient outcomes and ensuring our frontline staff have the tools they need to do their job with confidence.”
