We are continuing our support of classical music in Gibraltar with a grant of £30,000 over 3 years to the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society. Since 1998 the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society has organised high-calibre classical music concerts throughout the year, hosting internationally renowned musicians such as the English Chamber Orchestra, European Symphony Orchestra and soloists from the Vienna State Opera, The Metropolitan Opera (New York), Teatro alla Scala (Milan), Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (London), Berlin State Opera and Berlin Philharmonics to name a few.

As a registered charity, the Society aims to make classical music accessible to new audiences and children. Students and senior citizens benefit from half-price tickets and children under 18 attend for free. To encourage a high standard in the arts, the Society offers free tickets to all local schools and the Gibraltar Academy of Music and Performing Art (GAMPA). Two highlights of the Society’s annual calendar are the Celebration of Opera and the orchestral autumn concert.

“We cannot overstate the importance of such a generous financial contribution from the Kusuma Trust which will enable us to continue providing a high-calibre classical music experience to our community and fulfilling our aim of widening the scope of our audience and developing further our educational initiatives. ” – Ernest Gomez, Chairman of the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society.
