Doorstep Library is charity dedicated to bringing the gift of books and the joy of reading directly into the homes of children across London. They use books to fuel children’s natural love of stories, fire their imaginations, and encourage their appreciation of reading. We are delighted to award them a grant of £50,000 to continue and expand their work in our 3 focus boroughs.
With one in four 11-year-olds leaving primary school unable to read or write properly, Doorstep Library recruit and train home and online reading volunteers to go into some of the most disadvantaged areas in London to help introduce young children (aged 0-11 years) to the pleasure of reading. It is hoped that with our support they will inspire more than 1,400 children experience the joy of books and reading.
