We recently awarded a grant to City Harvest and here’s why: In London alone 9.2 million meals each month are missed by people experiencing food poverty, whilst at the same time 13.3 million meals are wasted by businesses. To this obvious problem, City Harvest aim to provide a simple solution by feeding more than 15,000 people per day in London with the nutritious and edible surplus food.

City Harvest was founded five years ago, and to date have distributed over 7 million meals, giving the equivalent of £8.5 million in food for free to their partner charities. Additionally, by diverting edible food from landfill, the organisation’s operations have prevented more than 11,000 tons of greenhouse gases from polluting the environment.

Our grant of £25,000 will contribute to the running costs of a van for one-year. Through this grant we hope City Harvest can continue to support disadvantaged communities in London facing food poverty. We look forward to seeing and learning more about City Harvest’s work over the next year!
