We have provided a grant of £16,000 towards the purchase of a Rotablator for the cardiac unit at St Bernard’s Hospital, Gibraltar. The grant matches the fundraising efforts of the Gibraltar Cardiac Association’s ‘Buy a Brick, Build a Heart’ campaign.’

The Rotablator is a highly advanced item of medical technology that uses a miniature surgical utensil, coated in microscopic diamond chips to remove hard plaque build-up from a patient’s arteries. It is also employed to clear complex coronary artery blockages which cannot be opened with normal coronary balloons. Previously, Gibraltarian patients requiring rotablation would need to travel to the UK but with this equipment the treatment can be administered at the cardiac catheter laboratory at St Bernard’s Hospital.

GHA Director General Dr Paul Bosio said: “I would like to thank Kusuma Trust and the Cardiac Association for their generous donation which will be a welcome addition to the treatment that we provide for our patients in the catheterization laboratory.”
