Nova New Opportunities

Holiday trips for families of North Kensington

There are 13 weeks of school holidays between April 2022 and March 2023. Our grant to Nova New Opportunities is making sure that, for families around North Kensington, many of those weeks are filled with exciting activities and trips. Holiday activities will come under four main themes: health and wellbeing; education and learning; arts and culture; and social, community and play.

Children and young people will get the opportunity to make new friends, or reconnect with old ones, as well as learning new skills and improving their confidence and wellbeing. Families will have the chance to spend time together in a stress-free environment.

  • We gave a grant of more than £21,000 to provide school holiday activities in North Kensington, London
  • Nova New Opportunities holiday project will reach up to 150 families each holiday, engaging between 395 and 575 adults and children.
  • Nova’s Family Programme was set up as a direct response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017. They’ve continued to develop their community work ever since.

Exciting activities around the Capital

Specific activities confirmed for the year include guided visits to exhibitions at the Royal Academy and Tate Modern; and theatre, music and dance performances at the Southbank Centre, Opera Holland Park, Little Angel Theatre and Unicorn Theatre. There are also virtual sessions with activities such as quizzes, scavenger hunts, science challenges and arts and crafts sessions, comic book storytelling, and family yoga and meditation.

Nova New Opportunities aims to address educational and social inequality. They work with children experiencing difficulties within the education system or with other life challenges, as well as children with physical and mental health issues.

This is our second grant to Nova New Opportunities – read about the first grant here.

“There are other local centres that provided activities and online activities [during the pandemic], but we feel more comfortable with Nova because we’ve known them for a long time and have trust. I feel really happy for my kids to do the activities with Nova rather than the other centres because they know most of the kids, so we feel more comfortable.”
