Earlier this year we supported CYE-CYL’s ‘Summer Challenge’ with a grant of £10,000. The three-week programme in Gibraltar focuses on building confidence, drive and ambition whilst providing 45 young people aged between 12 and 20, with practical skills for employment or further education. This is the third time we have supported this initiative since 2018, in total our funding has given over 100 young people the chance to participate in the programme and provide over 10,000 hours’ worth of mentorship.

Following a week of outdoor activities including abseiling, kayaking, hiking and rock-climbing, the second week focusses on bringing out the inner entrepreneur with participants designing a service or product to present to a panel of experts. In the final week, young people work with a mentor to gain skills in an area of personal interest which they then use to support local charities or community organisations. Workshops integrated into the programme focus on values, self-empowerment and mindfulness to inspire young people to improve their confidence levels, self-esteem and overall well-being.

Navin Mayani from CYE-CYL said: “The continued support from Kusuma Trust enables CYE-CYL to offer more young people the opportunity to gain the life-long tools they need to become free from low self-esteem, self-doubt and negative self-perception to be able to live with confidence, drive and ambition. We are extremely grateful for Kusuma Trust’s enthusiasm to support a charity that empowers young people to thrive and flourish.”
