We have given a grant of £24,304 to Greenpower Education Trust to expand their work in London schools. Greenpower’s mission is to inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths by encouraging them to design, build and race a single-seater electric car with their schoolmates. With a healthy dose of teamwork and competitive spirit, participants learn about engines, aerodynamics and environmentalism without even noticing.
Our grant will pay for a race event in central London for primary school children to zip around the streets of Kensington and Chelsea or Westminster in their self-built car in the summer of 2022. To encourage participation in this race and in Greenpower’s races for other age groups, we are also funding 12 car grants, enabling six primary and six secondary schools in lower-income neighbourhoods of London to buy their car building materials for half price.
