We have granted over £5,000 to the Inland Waterways Association (IWA) to equip 150 volunteers to clean up a 12 mile stretch of the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal on 24 July 2021.

The IWA works both to protect and to restore 6,500 miles of waterways across the UK. IWA will be working in partnership with the Friends of the Grand Union Canal – an informal group of 4,000 volunteers which emerged along the canal during the lockdowns of the past year. Together, they plan to clear litter from the towpath and to dredge up the sunken things from the bottom of the canal.

The green verges along London’s canals are a unique part of the city’s green network and we can’t wait to see the difference the IWA and the Friends can make along the Paddington Arm. To get involved or to find out more about the clean up event click here.
