Our grant of £18,510 to the Imperial War Museum will fund the Documentary Challenge project, reaching 4,930 Key Stage 2 and 3 children. The programme asks pupils to find objects in the museum’s collection that they think are “too important to be in a museum” and tasks them with making their own documentary about their choice. Pupils are asked not to always choose the easy answer but to select an object that resonates with their group, building their team working and critical thinking skills, as well as their digital storytelling abilities. Our funding will also cover costs of travel and entry for 30 classes of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), improving access to the programme for children with additional needs, and new knowledge for the museum about how to tailor the programme for different audiences.
