In November, we made a grant of over £14,000 to The Orchard Project to plant fruiting orchards in two schools in low-income areas of Kensington, Chelsea or Westminster. The schools will help design and build the orchards–choosing their favourite fruits, building bug-hotels for bio-diversity and planting the trees. Meanwhile, teachers will be trained on the upkeep of the orchards over the long-term.
Transformation doesn’t happen overnight, so with planning beginning this winter, the Orchard Project team expects to have the fruit trees planted and putting down roots by spring of 2022. We wish them the best of luck with this programme.
