In December 2019 we gave our staff and Trustees the opportunity to nominate small and local charities that make a positive impact to their communities but might not fall into our wider priority areas. One such charity nominated was Chefs for Schools, who were awarded a £10,000 grant.

On a recent visit our Grants Assistant witnessed the important work Chefs In Schools do with young pupils in and around London. She attended a school lunch along with pupils from Gayhurst School in Hackney and was able to see first hand the connection that they created between the children and the food they were eating. After a deliciously healthy lunch of salad, curry and lime-fried tofu, our Grants Assistant visited the professional kitchens to see the fresh produce that Chefs In Schools use daily to cook for the children. She said: “It was great to see children eating food like tofu and salad with a big smile on their faces. An important element of Chefs In Schools’ work is their ability to make every meal special by encouraging pupils to sit down, think and talk about what is on their plate. Not to mention it was the best tofu I ever tried!”

We were really grateful for this opportunity to visit them and are excited to see Chefs In Schools’ growth in London and around the country!
