On 24 March 2020, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Government of India ordered a nationwide lockdown limiting the movement of 1.3billion people. Our partners Transform Schools, People For Action were concerned by the potential impact this could have on students and created the Strong Foundations For Augmenting Learning (SAFAL) programme. SAFAL aims to prevent learning loss and support students remotely during the school closures.

The SAFAL programme has been adopted by the Government of Haryana as part of their Study at Home campaign, called #GharSePadhao. The campaign ensures teachers are in regular contact with parents and students using mobile apps. SAFAL focuses on Science, English, Mathematics, Hindi and Odia, and offers support to students by:
* making worksheets accessible through WhatsApp and Social Media platforms
* sourcing educational videos and activities from teachers and subject experts
* gathering feedback through surveys to improve the resources
* offering personal development activities to engage students at home

The Government of Haryana have thanked Transform Schools, People For Action for their hard work in enabling students to keep focused and up to date with their studies. SAFAL is also being implemented by the Government of Chhattisgarh to help students unable to attend their school during the outbreak of Corona virus.
